When the leaves start to change colors and loosen themselves from their respective trees, and the outdoor air turns crisp– it’s time to pull out the sweaters and boots, grab a hot beverage, and scout out some fun activities to usher in the new season. Fall is coming! And there are plenty of ways to enjoy some fun things to do in fall in Dayton TN.
Go for a hike! A super popular, scenic hike in the Dayton area is Laurel-Snow Trail to Laurel Falls. A great day hike, this particular slice of the Cumberland Trail is a 6.1-mile, moderately trafficked out and back featuring a rather impressive, 80-foot drop waterfall at its end. Open from 8am to 7pm, with its entrance gate at Pocket Wilderness Road, a Laurel Falls Dayton TN jaunt will make for a perfect foray into Tennessee fall.
Fall is also a great time to gather a few close friends for a weekend away! Take a break from the monotony of work life, and spend a weekend in nature with us at the Blue Water Resort in Dayton TN. Our facilities prove the perfect setting for a Tennessee fall getaway with lots of lodging options, RV camping, and a beautiful marina on Lake Chickamauga. Give yourself the time and space to enjoy the beauty that cloaks the Tennessee hills as summer transitions to a cooler and colorful fall.
Another fun way to usher in the fall season is a trip to Old McDonald Farm. Nestled at the foot of Walden’s Ridge in northern Hamilton County, Old McDonald is a working farm with 700 of its acres dedicated to cultivating hay and cattle. This farm has been in the McDonald family for 8 generations now, and they love sharing this special place with visitors, especially during the fall! During this favorite season, the McDonald family welcomes guests to their farm with a variety of fun fall activities including hayrides, baby farm animal encounters, and even picking out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. They even have a fun hay bale maze for families to find their way through. The acre-sized maze features low walls making it perfect for younger children to navigate.
Arguably one of the best things about fall is Halloween! As this spooky holiday approaches, and you’ve spent time assembling a next-level costume, it’s always nice to find a few occasions where you can show it off. One such occasion is at the MainStreet Dayton PumpkinFest! This two-day festival occurs the evenings of October 25th and 26th for two days of activities, shopping, delicious fall foods, and more! Check out the Historic Rhea County Courthouse for food and craft vendors on the lawn and live music at Centennial Stage. There will be games, trick-or-treating, and of course a costume contest– fall fun for the whole family.
Take a trip to Oren Wooden’s Apple House if you’re into apple pickin’! This beautiful Tennessee apple orchard also features a farmer’s market, gift shop, bakery, and a meat-and-three style restaurant with daily specials you and your family are sure to enjoy. They are open for the fall season and they have a huge variety of apples available including Big Green, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Gala, Mutsu, and Johnagold! You can also stop off here for sweet potatoes, peppers, Kennebec potatoes, and squash, as well as honey, jams, jellies, preserves, and pickled everything! Make your fall food dreams come true with delicious, local produce from Wooden’s.
No matter how you decide to welcome in the Fall season, we hope it’s full of outdoor excursions amid colorful fall foliage, pumpkin picking, delicious fall foods, and adventure with family and friends!
